Brandon Jason Altamirano, a 39-year-old resident of Tulsa, pleaded guilty on Apr. 21 to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. The offense carries a potential sentence of up to 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Altamirano was charged with knowingly possessing a semi-automatic pistol and 38 rounds of assorted ammunition in Okmulgee County on November 23, 2024. He had previously been convicted of an offense punishable by more than one year imprisonment. The investigation leading to these charges was conducted by the Okmulgee County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The plea was accepted by Magistrate Judge Jason A. Robertson in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Judge Robertson ordered that a presentence investigation report be completed before sentencing is determined.
A U.S. District Court Judge will decide Altamirano’s sentence after considering federal sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors. In the meantime, Altamirano remains in custody with the United States Marshals Service pending his sentencing hearing.
