Jeffrey Wayne Thompson, a 49-year-old resident of Fort Worth, Texas, has been sentenced to time served and three years of supervised release for the charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma made this announcement.
The case originated from an investigation conducted by the Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Thompson pleaded guilty to the charges on November 7, 2024. Investigators reported that during a traffic stop on February 21, 2023, deputies found Thompson with a handgun and six rounds of ammunition. At that time, he had already been convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year in prison.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. The program was reinforced with a new strategy launched on May 26, 2021. This strategy emphasizes building trust within communities, supporting organizations that prevent violence, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
The sentencing hearing was overseen by Chief U.S. District Judge Ronald A. White at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Michael E. Robinson and Jonathan E. Soverly represented the prosecution in this case.
