Byron Keith Spencer, a 54-year-old resident of Seminole, Oklahoma, was sentenced on Mar. 9 to 92 months in federal prison for possessing a stolen firearm, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to address gun-related crimes and enforce federal firearm laws.
Spencer pleaded guilty on June 9, 2025, in federal district court to one count of possession of a stolen firearm. Investigators said that during a traffic stop in Wewoka on May 9, 2023, officers found Spencer with a Walther PK380 .380 handgun that had been reported stolen. Authorities determined that Spencer knew or had reasonable cause to believe the firearm was stolen at the time of the offense.
The investigation involved the Wewoka Police Department, the District 22 Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The sentencing hearing was presided over by Senior Judge Ronald A. White in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
Spencer will remain in custody with the U.S. Marshals Service until he is transported to a designated facility within the United States Bureau of Prisons system to serve his sentence without parole. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jonathan E. Soverly and Edith A. Singer represented the government in this case.
The sentence reflects continued collaboration among local and federal agencies targeting illegal possession and trafficking of firearms.
