Fernando Jesus Villegas, 41, from Oklahoma City, has been sentenced to 77 months in federal prison for possessing a firearm after having previous felony convictions. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester.

On May 21, 2025, officers from the Oklahoma City Police Department responded to a report of an armed intruder at a church near S. Shartel Avenue and SW 25th Street. According to reports from church members, Villegas entered the basement where several people, including children, were present and demanded assistance in hiding him. Witnesses stated that Villegas displayed a handgun, pointed it at one person, and waved it around before fleeing as police arrived. Officers arrested him nearby shortly after the incident and found a handgun in his front pocket.

A federal Grand Jury charged Villegas on August 5, 2025, with being a felon in possession of a firearm. He pleaded guilty on October 22, 2025, admitting he had the firearm despite prior felony convictions.

Public records show that Villegas has several felony convictions in Oklahoma County District Court: possession of drug proceeds and marijuana (CF-2003-3981), possession of methamphetamine (CF-2015-1908), and both possession of methamphetamine and aggravated eluding a police officer (CF-2016-364).

At his sentencing hearing on February 18, 2026, U.S. District Judge David L. Russell ordered Villegas to serve more than six years in prison followed by three years of supervised release. “In announcing the sentence, the Court noted its concern for protecting the public considering Villegas’ criminal history.”

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the Oklahoma City Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Nichols Jr., prosecuted the case.
