Muskogee man pleads guilty to assault resulting in serious bodily injury

A Muskogee resident, Tommy Lynn Byrd, Jr., age 37, has pleaded guilty to one count of assault resulting in serious bodily injury in Indian Country. The charge carries a maximum penalty of ten years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

According to the indictment, Byrd assaulted a victim on January 9, 2025. The incident took place in Muskogee County within the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Reservation.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Muskogee Police Department. The Honorable Gerald L. Jackson, U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, accepted Byrd’s plea and ordered a presentence investigation report.

Sentencing will be determined by a U.S. District Court Judge after reviewing the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other relevant factors. Byrd will remain in custody with the United States Marshals Service until sentencing.
