A man from Moore, Oklahoma, has been charged by a federal Grand Jury with failing to register as a sex offender after allegedly staging a crime scene and fleeing the state in 2012. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester.
Court documents indicate that on March 12, 2012, the Moore Police Department contacted the United States Marshals Service (USMS) for help locating Anthony Michael Lennon, age 44. Authorities found evidence of what appeared to be a violent struggle at a local hotel where Lennon had disappeared. However, after reviewing the scene with crime experts, the USMS concluded that the crime scene had been staged.
At the time he went missing, Lennon was facing child pornography charges in Cleveland County District Court and possible prison time for violating terms of a suspended sentence from an earlier child pornography conviction. Investigators learned that Lennon had withdrawn all funds from his bank accounts before disappearing and believed he had left Oklahoma.
Recently uncovered information revealed that Lennon had been living in New York State without registering as a sex offender and had tried several times to obtain a U.S. passport using an alias. He was arrested on October 30, 2025, in Canton, New York. On November 18, 2025, a federal Grand Jury in the Western District of Oklahoma charged him with failure to register as a sex offender.
If found guilty, Lennon could face up to ten years in prison and fines reaching $250,000.
“The public is reminded this charge is merely an allegation, and that Lennon is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt,” according to the statement.
The investigation involved the United States Marshals Service, Moore Police Department, and Diplomatic Security Service. Assistant U.S. Attorney Tiffany Edgmon is handling prosecution for the case.
