Angel Urbina-Ramirez, a 54-year-old Mexican national, has been sentenced to 10 months in prison for unlawful reentry into the United States. The sentencing was announced by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

Urbina-Ramirez was found in LeFlore County, Oklahoma, without legal permission after having previously been removed from the country on January 30, 2018. Authorities reported that he did not obtain consent from the Secretary of Homeland Security to reapply for admission before returning.

The investigation involved the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement Division and the Poteau Police Department. Urbina-Ramirez pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful reentry on July 21, 2025.

According to officials, this case is part of Operation Take Back America, which aims to address illegal immigration and combat cartels and transnational criminal organizations. The initiative brings together resources from the Department of Justice’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

The sentencing hearing was overseen by U.S. District Judge John F. Heil, III. Urbina-Ramirez will remain in custody with the U.S. Marshals Service until he is transferred to a Bureau of Prisons facility to serve his sentence, which does not allow for parole.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Erin Cornell represented the government in this case.
