Fernando Gonzalez-Esparza, a 41-year-old Mexican national, was sentenced to 30 months in prison for unlawfully reentering the United States after being previously removed. The sentencing took place in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and was announced by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

Gonzalez-Esparza, also known by several aliases including Fernando Esparza-Gonzalez and Angel Gomez, pleaded guilty on September 10, 2025. According to investigators from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement Division and the Haskell Police Department, he was found in Muskogee County on July 12, 2025, without having obtained permission from the Secretary of Homeland Security to return after his removal on October 1, 2021.

The case is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative led by the Department of Justice aimed at addressing illegal immigration and combating transnational criminal organizations.

Senior District Judge Ronald A. White presided over the hearing. Gonzalez-Esparza will remain in U.S. Marshals Service custody until he is transported to a Bureau of Prisons facility to serve his sentence without parole.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Erin Cornell represented the government during sentencing.
