JOSE REYES ZAMORA-DE LA TORRE, a 33-year-old Mexican national, has been sentenced to 14 months in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States after a previous removal. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester.
Court records show that Zamora-De La Torre was found in the United States on January 16, 2025, despite having been removed to Mexico on May 31, 2024. He came to the attention of immigration authorities following his arrest on state charges in Oklahoma County District Court. Those charges included assault and battery upon a police officer, public intoxication, obstruction of an officer (case number CF-2024-2332), and malicious injury to property valued at less than $1,000 (case number CF-2024-1809). Zamora-De La Torre has since been convicted of these offenses.
Federal prosecutors charged Zamora-De La Torre with illegal reentry on February 28, 2025. He pleaded guilty on April 4, 2025, admitting that he knowingly returned to the U.S. without legal permission.
At the sentencing hearing held July 22, 2025, U.S. District Judge David L. Russell imposed a sentence of 14 months in federal prison. Judge Russell stated: “the sentence was warranted because, while in the U.S. illegally, Zamora-De La Torre engaged in other criminal conduct for which he was convicted in state court.”
The investigation leading to this prosecution was conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Bow Bottomly handled the case.
According to officials, this prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America—a nationwide effort led by the Department of Justice that focuses on combating illegal immigration and targeting cartels and transnational criminal organizations to protect communities from violent crime.
