Latimer County man pleads guilty to sexual abuse charges involving minor

A resident of Wilburton, Oklahoma, Michael Morgan Ellis, Jr., has pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to the sexual abuse of a minor. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced that Ellis, 38, admitted guilt to three counts of Sexual Abuse of a Minor in Indian Country and two counts of Abusive Sexual Contact in Indian Country.

The indictment stated that from July 2023 through June 26, 2024, Ellis engaged in sex acts and sexual contact with a minor who was between the ages of 12 and 16 and at least four years younger than him. These offenses took place in Pittsburg County within the Choctaw Nation Reservation.

The investigation involved the Federal Bureau of Investigation, McAlester Police Department, and Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police.

U.S. Magistrate Judge D. Edward Snow accepted Ellis’s plea and ordered a presentence investigation report. Sentencing will be determined by a U.S. District Court Judge after considering federal guidelines and statutory factors.

Ellis is being held by the United States Marshals Service until sentencing. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Emily Wittlinger and Nicole Paladino are representing the government in this case.
