A federal jury in Muskogee, Oklahoma, has convicted Ramone Antuane Newman, 36, of Olathe, Kansas, for illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition. The verdict was announced by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
The trial began on February 17, 2026, and concluded with a guilty verdict on February 18. Evidence presented during the proceedings showed that on February 2, 2024, Newman attempted to evade law enforcement in a high-speed chase. During the pursuit, he threw a Glock handgun and a magazine loaded with four rounds from his vehicle. Law enforcement apprehended him near the entrance to the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant and recovered both the firearm and magazine from the area where they were discarded.
At the time of this incident, Newman had previously been convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year in prison. As a result, he was prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.
Multiple agencies participated in the investigation leading to Newman’s conviction. These included the Federal Bureau of Investigation; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; McAlester Police Department; Oklahoma Highway Patrol; McAlester Army Ammunition Plant Police Department; Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Office; Savanna Police Department; and Choctaw Lighthorse Police.
Senior District Judge Ronald A. White presided over the trial in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. He ordered completion of a presentence report before scheduling sentencing. Newman will remain in custody of U.S. Marshals until sentencing is complete.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kevin Gross and Jonathan E. Soverly represented the government during trial.
