Jimcy McGirt, a 76-year-old resident of Wewoka, Oklahoma, has entered a guilty plea to the charge of failing to register as a sex offender. This announcement was made by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. The offense carries a potential prison sentence of up to ten years.
According to the indictment, McGirt was previously convicted on May 2, 2024, for Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Minor in Indian Country. The conviction took place in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. It is alleged that from August 25 to August 31, 2024, McGirt knowingly failed to register his residence within two thousand feet of any playground or park.
The case resulted from an investigation conducted by the United States Marshals Service. The plea was accepted by U.S. Magistrate Judge Gerald L. Jackson in the same district court where McGirt’s previous conviction occurred. A presentence investigation report has been ordered following this plea.
A U.S. District Court Judge will decide on McGirt’s sentence after reviewing the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other legal factors relevant to this case.
Until sentencing is complete, McGirt will remain under the custody of the United States Marshals Service.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Sarah McAmis and Nicole Paladino are representing the United States in this matter.
