Attorney General Gentner Drummond has called on Oklahomans to stay alert for scams as part of National Slam the Scam Day, a national campaign aimed at raising awareness and protecting consumers from increasingly complex fraudulent schemes.
Recent data from the Federal Trade Commission shows that Americans lost over $12.5 billion to scams in 2024, marking a 25 percent rise compared to the previous year. Investment scams were responsible for more than $5.7 billion in losses, while imposter scams led to nearly $3 billion in reported losses.
“Scammers are relentless, and consumers must stay vigilant to protect themselves and their loved ones from these predators,” Drummond said. “My office will continue working tirelessly to protect hardworking Oklahomans and ensure these criminals are punished to the fullest extent of the law.”
The Attorney General’s Office advises residents not to share personal or financial information in response to unsolicited communications and warns against clicking links or attachments in unexpected emails or texts—even if they appear familiar. Individuals should monitor their accounts for unauthorized activity, be cautious with payment requests involving gift cards or cryptocurrency, and verify requests by contacting organizations directly through trusted channels.
Oklahomans who suspect they have been targeted by a scam can submit a complaint using the Consumer Complaint Form provided by the Attorney General’s Office.
Drummond leads the Oklahoma Attorney General’s office, which focuses on combating crime, ensuring government transparency, strengthening tribal relations, and upholding the rule of law according to his official biography. The office also supports policies related to energy, education safeguards, and stricter laws on crimes such as rape and drug distribution. Collaboration with state and federal partners is central to addressing organized crime. The Attorney General’s work includes providing public legal services within Oklahoma.
