Kenny Ray Jackson, a 65-year-old resident of Park Hill, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to 12 months and one day in federal prison for illegally possessing firearms and ammunition. The sentencing was announced by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

Jackson pleaded guilty on February 11, 2025, to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. Investigators stated that on July 29, 2024, Jackson knowingly possessed three firearms—a semi-automatic rifle, a lever action rifle, and a break open shotgun—along with 54 rounds of assorted caliber ammunition. Jackson had previously been convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year in prison.

The investigation leading to these charges was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma: “This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone. On May 26, 2021, the department launched a violent crime reduction strategy strengthening PSN based on these core principles: fostering trust and legitimacy in our communities, supporting community-based organizations that help prevent violence from occurring in the first place, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring the results.”

The sentencing hearing was overseen by Chief U.S. District Judge Ronald A. White in Muskogee. Jackson has been ordered to self-report on September 19, 2025, to begin serving his sentence at a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility. The sentence is not eligible for parole.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan E. Soverly prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.
