Latisha Marie McCarter, a 43-year-old resident of Checotah, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to 24 months in federal prison for distributing methamphetamine. The sentencing was announced by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

The case resulted from an investigation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics. Authorities reported that on June 17, 2023, McCarter sold a bag containing white crystalline methamphetamine, classified as a Schedule II controlled substance, in a store parking lot in Checotah.

McCarter pleaded guilty to the charge on August 13, 2025. The sentencing hearing was overseen by U.S. District Judge John C. Coughenour of the Western District of Washington, who served by designation. McCarter will remain in U.S. Marshals Service custody until she is transported to a designated facility within the United States Bureau of Prisons system to serve her sentence, which does not allow for parole.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jordan Howanitz prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.
