Carter County man receives over seven-year sentence for robbery and assault

A Sulphur, Oklahoma resident has been sentenced to more than seven years in federal prison for robbery and felony assault. Timmy Lynn Tatum, 18, received a sentence of 87 months for one count of Robbery in Indian Country and 87 months for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon with Intent to Do Bodily Harm in Indian Country. The sentences will be served concurrently.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Sulphur Police Department, the Murray County Sheriff’s Office, and the Chickasaw Nation Lighthorse Police.

Tatum pleaded guilty on April 1, 2025. Investigators reported that on June 30, 2024, Tatum broke into a home in Sulphur where he assaulted the victim with a firearm and robbed them at gunpoint before leaving with several valuable items.

The incident took place in Murray County within the boundaries of the Chickasaw Nation Reservation.

Senior Judge Ronald A. White presided over the sentencing hearing at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Tatum is being held by the U.S. Marshals Service until transfer to a Bureau of Prisons facility to serve his non-paroleable sentence.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Edith A. Singer prosecuted the case.
