The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Broken Bow Police Department. Yazzie pleaded guilty to the charge on February 13, 2025. The offense took place in McCurtain County, within the Choctaw Nation Reservation.

This prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative started by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project brings together federal, state, and local resources to locate and prosecute offenders as well as identify and rescue victims.
