A Broken Arrow man has been sentenced to eight years in federal prison after attempting to receive child pornography and arrange a meeting with a minor, according to an announcement from U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson.
U.S. District Judge John F. Heil, III sentenced Danny Lawrence Newton, 43, to 96 months in prison followed by 15 years of supervised release. Upon his release, Newton will be required to register as a sex offender.
Court records indicate that in June 2024, Newton began communicating on social media with someone he believed was a 14-year-old. During their conversations, Newton requested photographs from the minor and discussed sexual activity. He later arranged an in-person meeting at an address provided by the supposed minor. Law enforcement detained him when he arrived at the location.
Newton remains in custody while awaiting transfer to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashley Robert and investigated by Homeland Security Investigations along with the Skiatook Police Department, Pryor Police Department, and Tulsa Police Department as part of Operation Clean Sweep II. This operation works with the Tornado Alley Child Exploitation and Trafficking Task Force to pursue individuals who target children for exploitation within the Northern District of Oklahoma.
This prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, a national effort launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse through coordinated federal, state, and local resources focused on apprehending offenders using the internet and identifying victims.
