Attorney General Gentner Drummond commended the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board’s decision on April 8 to deny clemency for Raymond Johnson, who was convicted of murder. Johnson is scheduled to be executed on May 14.

The case concerns the deaths of Brooke Whitaker and her seven-month-old daughter, Kya, in 2007. According to evidence presented at trial, Johnson attacked Whitaker with a claw hammer in her home before dousing her with gasoline and setting her on fire. Her infant daughter died from burns caused by the fire.

“Raymond Johnson is a cruel murderer who inflicted unimaginable pain and suffering on his victims,” Drummond said. “His heinous actions shattered a family and forced three young children to grow up without their mother or baby sister. There will finally be justice for Brooke and Kya when the death sentence is carried out on May 14.”
