Jacob Layton Earley, a 22-year-old resident of Ardmore, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to twenty-eight months in federal prison for possessing a firearm and ammunition despite being legally prohibited from doing so. The sentencing was announced by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

The case followed an investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Authorities reported that on December 21, 2022, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Earley’s residence. During the search, they found a 5.56X45mm Smith and Wesson semi-automatic rifle with a magazine containing 28 rounds of .223 REM caliber ammunition as well as an additional 100 rounds of .223 REM caliber ammunition in his bedroom.

At the time of the incident, Earley was under a protection order issued by the Chickasaw Nation District Court. The order specifically barred him from owning, possessing, buying, or attempting to obtain any firearms.

Earley pleaded guilty to one count of Possession of Firearm and Ammunition by Prohibited Person on March 18, 2025.

The sentencing hearing was overseen by Chief U.S. District Judge Ronald A. White in Muskogee. According to court records, Earley will remain in custody with the U.S. Marshals Service until he is transferred to a facility designated by the United States Bureau of Prisons to serve his sentence without parole.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Lewis M. Reagan prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.
