Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, a 27-year-old Afghan national, pleaded guilty in Oklahoma City federal court to terrorism-related charges. Tawhedi admitted to conspiring and attempting to provide support to ISIS and receiving firearms for a planned attack on Election Day in 2024.

Attorney General Pamela Bondi stated, “By pledging allegiance to ISIS and plotting an attack against innocent Americans on Election Day, this defendant endangered lives and gravely betrayed the nation that gave him refuge.” She emphasized that Tawhedi’s guilty plea ensures he will be held accountable and removed from the United States.

FBI Director Kash Patel highlighted the disruption of the plot, saying, “The defendant admits he planned and obtained firearms to carry out a violent terror attack on Election Day in 2024.” He commended the FBI and its partners for their efforts in preventing the attack.

United States Attorney Robert J. Troester praised law enforcement coordination that thwarted the attack. “These guilty pleas serve as an emphatic reminder that the Department of Justice and its law enforcement partners will aggressively pursue those who attempt to harm Americans through terrorist acts,” he said.

Special Agent Doug Goodwater of the FBI Oklahoma City Field Office credited the Joint Terrorism Task Force with stopping Tawhedi’s plan. He expressed gratitude for all involved in combating terrorism.

Court documents reveal that between June and October 2024, Tawhedi conspired with another individual, Abdullah Haji Zada, to purchase weapons for a mass-casualty attack on behalf of ISIS. The two were arrested after buying firearms from an undercover FBI employee.

Zada pleaded guilty in April 2025 and awaits sentencing. Both face significant prison terms followed by removal from the U.S. The case is investigated by multiple agencies including Homeland Security Investigations and local police departments.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jessica L. Perry, Matt Dillon, Everett McMillian, Trial Attorney Jennifer Levy, and Mark Stoneman are prosecuting the case.
