Zachary Thomas Carson, a 36-year-old resident of Adair County, Oklahoma, has pleaded guilty to the charge of being a felon in possession of ammunition. This offense carries a potential penalty of up to 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Carson was indicted for possessing 297 rounds of ammunition on April 21, 2025. This possession occurred after he had been previously convicted of a crime that is punishable by more than one year in prison.

The investigation leading to this charge was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the Adair County Sheriff’s Office.

The plea was accepted by U.S. Magistrate Judge Gerald L. Jackson at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. A presentence investigation report has been ordered following this acceptance.

A U.S. District Court Judge will decide Carson’s sentence after evaluating the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other relevant statutory factors.

Until sentencing is determined, Carson will remain under the custody of the United States Marshals Service.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jacob R. Parker and Emily Wittlinger.
