Jasmine Rae Valdez, a 26-year-old resident of Ada, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to 33 months in prison for two counts of assault in Indian Country. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced that Valdez received concurrent sentences for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon with Intent to do Bodily Harm and Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury.
Valdez’s co-defendant, Brendan Kaleb Rains, also 26 and from Ada, was previously sentenced on April 10, 2025. Rains received a 60-month sentence for each count of the same charges as Valdez. His sentences will also run concurrently after pleading guilty on June 11, 2024.
The charges stem from an incident on August 29, 2023. According to investigators, Valdez and Rains forcibly entered a residence in Stonewall, Oklahoma. During the altercation that followed, Valdez assisted Rains in attacking the occupants and acted to prevent help from reaching the victims. The crimes took place within Pontotoc County on the Chickasaw Nation Reservation.
The investigation was conducted by the Chickasaw Nation Lighthorse Police and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Chief U.S. District Judge Eric F. Melgren presided over the hearing by assignment at the United States District Court for Kansas.
Valdez remains in custody with the U.S. Marshals Service until she is transported to a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility to serve her non-paroleable sentence. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin Gross represented the United States in this case.
